Suspended Thoughts

Why don’t CEOs or executives of companies (tech would be most interesting) blog like FSJ does? Posting what they think, not filtered, could get a lot of traffic to their site, and make them well known.

They think they will lose customers from being too aggressive / strong languaged / whatever. I’ll say this: they probably will lose a few. But they will probably gain a few, too.

I think it would be an interesting experiment for a not very well known company to non-geeks, such as Oracle (and make sure they have Ellison do it).

Ok, maybe not a good idea… but it would be a good experiment.

Right now, my main machine is a 13″ MacBook, 2.0GHz, 160GB hard drive, and 2GB RAM. I’m backing up using Time Machine (I know everyone uses SuperDuper or whatever else). I have a 200GB external Western Digital MyBook. Here is what I’m looking into buying now.

Monitor

I’ll just say this right now: I don’t like only having a 13″ screen.

What I’m looking at is this monitor (NewEgg). It is 22″, and seems to get very good reviews. After a mail in rebate, it is only $210. Does anyone have personal experience with this monitor? It seems very good, but $210 after a rebate seems to be awfully cheap for a 22″ monitor that people seem to really like. Kind of a too good to be true thing, but I really know nothing about monitors.

Keyboard

I love the way my MacBook keyboard is, and that is pretty much what the Apple Wireless Keyboard is, with Bluetooth. Just seems like a nice, small, relatively cheap keyboard that would suit my needs.

Mouse

Right now I am using the mouse for my (outdated) Wacom Graphire 4. It is actually surprisingly good, but I don’t want cords going from the bottom pull-out part of my desk around the back and behind the monitor. I’m looking at the Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse and the Logitech MX Revolution.

Laptop stand

I’m going to have my MacBook closed while using the external display, so I’m going to need a way to keep it cool. I like the Belkin Laptop Cooling Pad.

I’m testing out MarsEdit and ecto, the main desktop blogging clients for the Mac. I’ll probably have a comparison between the two in a week or so. I haven’t had much experience with either, but both seem very nice compared to the web browser interface.Does anyone have strong feelings for MarsEdit over ecto or vice versa?

Well, I was talking to Jack (from jackcomeau.blogspot.com, Twittering here) on Skype.  He made his blog a few days ago (very good, not the news ticker you get elsewhere), and I was thinking about buying a domain for myself.  I decided I should try blogging a bit before I get myself paying for two years or whatever to a host and finding out it’s not for me. We were using some word generators and such, but I couldn’t really come up with something I liked.  Most of the things we were thinking of were dozens of characters long, most of which couldn’t be found in your run-of-the-mill dictionary.  All of a sudden, Jack just blurted (typed) “suspended thoughts.”  I started spazzing.  Actually, not really.  But I loved it.  And it is what I’m using now.
