5 Mac freeware apps that won’t run you even half a Yen
Inspired by Jack’s article about Windows freeware (and stealing his title), here are my top five Mac freeware apps.
5. Oxidizer is a nice wallpaper-making app. It is actually open-source, so you can download the source code if you know anything about programming. I use this to make all of my wallpapers.
4. OnyX is a maintenance app. I pretty much use it for its automation. It executes scripts and clears caches and stuff like that. Try it out.
3. Handbrake is used for ripping DVDs. It’s up to you whether you think this is legal or shady, but I can’t see why you wouldn’t do it. It is the easiest and best way to get a DVD onto your Mac.
2. Adium, in my opinion, is the way to go for instant messaging on the Mac. Support for MSN, Jabber, AIM, and many more is one of its strengths. It also is very customizable in every way, mostly through downloadable extras.
1. NetNewsWire. If you haven’t tried RSS, you must. I know a few people that have tried it and don’t like it, but I’m not sure why you wouldn’t. NNW is my personal preference, but there are other RSS clients on the Mac.
